How Big Is the Shadow You Cast?
How Big Is the Shadow You Cast?
Power is a funny thing.
It isn't a crown you're handed. It isn't something you can lock away in a vault.
It’s something far more slippery — and far more accessible.
“Power resides where men believe it resides. It’s a trick, a shadow on the wall.”
(George R.R. Martin, via “Game of Thrones”)
And perhaps even more striking:
“A very small man can cast a very large shadow.”
In business, leadership, and even the relationships we build daily, we are often under the illusion that power is reserved for those with titles, wealth, or impressive job descriptions.
But real influence — the kind that moves people, creates opportunities, and shifts thinking — starts with perception, not position.
If others believe in your vision, your integrity, or your energy, you are already casting a shadow far bigger than your official ‘size’.
It’s not the size of the man or woman that counts. It’s the size of the belief they inspire.
So perhaps the real question for all of us is not: "How important am I?"
But rather: "What kind of shadow am I casting?"
And: "Is it one of fear, or one of possibility?"
Curious to hear your thoughts — have you ever underestimated the size of your own shadow?
