Face the Camera, Not the Fear

How Video Builds Trust Before You Say a Word

You know how I love video. It's the next best thing to person-to-person communication.

Some say it's better because once produced it will reach your audience wherever they are, even when you're sleeping. And it will put you in front of people 24/7 because the video never has to sleep.

Let’s get straight to it ... if your potential customers can’t see you, they probably won’t choose you.

We’re long past the point where being on video is a “nice to have”. According to video marketing expert Mike Koenigs (featured recently on Dan Kennedy’s Magnetic Marketing Podcast), showing up on camera isn’t about chasing fame or flaunting filters.

It’s about showing your face, your values, and your intent because, in a world of faceless brands, familiarity wins.

Whether you’re selling your expertise, growing a referral network, or building trust in a crowded space, here’s what stood out from Mike’s insights — and why it matters more than ever for business owners like us:

1. Your First Video = A Digital Handshake

You don’t need a studio. You don’t need a script. You just need to show up as yourself. The goal? Help someone feel like they’ve met you—even if you’ve never spoken.

“Being on video is no longer a competitive edge. It’s just the entry ticket.” Mike Koenigs

2. Don’t Obsess Over Tech. Focus on Feel.

People don’t buy from perfect lighting, they buy from real people. A message that connects will always outperform production that dazzles but says nothing.

Ask yourself:

  • What does my audience need to hear?
  • How do I want them to feel?

3. If You Build It, You Still Have to Market It

You can have the best service, product, or offer on the planet, but without consistent, visible marketing, it’ll stay the world’s best-kept secret.

“You have GOT to spend as much time (if not more) marketing your product as you do creating it.”

4. Video Is the New Referral

Here’s the beauty: a good video is like a personal introduction — it works while you sleep. It’s shareable and scalable, and it speaks to your audience again and again.

“You're not filming for now. You're filming for the moment they think, ‘Who do I know who can help with this?’”

5. Here’s How to Start (Without the Overwhelm)

Use this 5-part framework to create a simple, powerful intro video:

1. WHO you help

2. WHAT problem you solve

3. WHY you care

4. HOW you help

5. WHERE to find you

Keep it under 90 seconds. Talk to the camera like it’s someone you care about. And yes, it’s okay if it’s not perfect. (In fact, it’s better that way.)

Ready to Be Seen?

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to show up on video ... this is it.

You don’t need confidence before you start. Confidence comes from starting.

Need a little nudge? I’ve created a printable version of the “5-Minute Video Toolkit” I use myself and with clients. Just reply to this message with the word VIDEO and I’ll send it over.

Let’s get your face in front of the people who need to see it most.
