If you post on LinkedIn you should know that the LinkedIn algorithm has recently undergone changes that can significantly impact your visibility and success on the platform.

Understanding these shifts and adapting your approach accordingly is key to thriving in this professional networking space. In this video, Neil Patel delves into the essential points and provides actionable insights on how to navigate the new LinkedIn algorithm.

Neil Patel on the recent LinkedIn Algorithm changes

Here are the main points from the video:

1. Why LinkedIn is Tweaking Its Algorithm

LinkedIn's decision to alter its algorithm stems from a fundamental desire to maintain its identity as a B2B social network. As more users flood the platform, ensuring content relevance becomes crucial. LinkedIn aims to curate a space where meaningful, knowledge-based interactions take precedence over viral but irrelevant content.

"LinkedIn's team is tired of seeing random stuff going viral."

2. Prioritising Your Followers

One of the key takeaways is that LinkedIn now gives greater priority to ensuring that your followers see your content. This adjustment has resulted in a notable 10% increase in people viewing posts from those they follow. In essence, LinkedIn encourages content creators to cater to their existing audience.

"You follow people for a specific reason – you want to see their content."

3. The Power of Knowledge and Advice

LinkedIn's algorithm shift also places a strong emphasis on content that shares knowledge and offers valuable advice. Posts that genuinely help people become more productive and successful are now favored. This shift has led to a substantial 40% increase in views for knowledge-based content from outside one's network.

"If you feel like your content is helping people be more productive and successful, you're winning."

4. Crafting Relevant Content

To excel in this new algorithmic landscape, it's essential to create content that aligns with these changes. LinkedIn identifies knowledge and advice through specific criteria:

– The post speaks to a distinct audience, ensuring relevance.

– The author remains focused on their core subject area, resisting attempts to cover every topic under the sun.

– Meaningful comments play a significant role in determining post visibility.

"Put educational-based content on LinkedIn that helps people out."

Action Points:

1. Prioritise Your Audience: Concentrate on creating content that resonates with your followers and provides value to them. Focus on quality over quantity.

2. Share Knowledge: Craft content that imparts valuable insights or advice related to your expertise. Address the needs and pain points of your target audience.

3. Stay Focused: Resist the temptation to diversify too widely. Stick to your core subject area, ensuring your content maintains a clear and consistent theme.

4. Foster Meaningful Engagement: Encourage thoughtful comments on your posts, and actively engage with your audience. Genuine interactions will boost the visibility of your content.

Personally, I welcome these changes. For almost three years now I’ve been emphasising the fact that content is designed to provide engagement that builds your credibility and reputation as a person of authority in your chosen subject.  It follows therefore that the majority of your content on LinkedIn should deliver added value, sharing your knowledge, insights, and advice in a generous way.

But that's just my opinion. What do you think?
